What is cottagecore? Well, the first time I heard of it was when my daughter explained it to me in reference to the Taylor Swift albums Folklore and Evermore. It’s an aesthetic. To learn more, you might start here:

It looks as though The Carriage House in Columbia is looking to jump on the cottagecore bandwagon as they use social media to publicize their event space. The Twitter account is one year old. I started following them largely because I was puzzled by the name change. What they call “The Carriage House in Columbia” is known locally as Oliver’s Carriage House. It’s home to Lake Kittamaqundi Community Church, and is used not only for weddings but also for concerts, poetry and play readings, community meetings and receptions, and more.  

I suspect that “The Carriage House in Columbia” is to Oliver’s Carriage House in the same way that “The Shoppes at Wilde Lake” is to the Wilde Lake Village Center. It’s rebranding. And, in the case of the Carriage House, it’s focused entirely on booking more weddings. It’s very likely that the upkeep of the historic structure is dependent upon the revenue from such events. So it makes sense, even though something inside me bristles at the rebranding effort.
