On Saturday when I was looking for local activities I came across several happy hours that caught my eye. I had never noticed how many “theme” cocktail events we have in Columbia/HoCo. Here are three that sparked my interest.
This Wednesday at Pub Dog, beginning at 5:30 pm: Green Drinks.
It’s not kale smoothies or Midori martinis, as I originally assumed. Green Drinks is a part of a worldwide initiative, or, as they say, “saving the world one drink at a time.”
Every month people who work in the environmental field meet up at informal sessions known as Green Drinks.
We have a lively mixture of people from NGOs, academia, government and business. Come along and you'll be made welcome. Just say, "are you green?" and we will look after you and introduce you to whoever is there. It's a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along, so there’s always a different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organising network.
The idea of walking into a social event and asking, “are you green?” just tickles me. Nonetheless, I think it’s a great idea. As the old song says, it’s not easy being green. Making new green connections has got to be a good thing.
On Wednesday, July 19th you can come to a happy hour hosted by sofas. Yes, sofas. I kid you not.
No, there’s my imagination playing tricks on me again.
Join the ASID DC Metro Chapter on Wednesday, July 19, for a Columbia Design District Happy Hour at sofas ETC in Columbia, Maryland, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
It’s a happy hour for interior decorators to be held at Sofas, etc. on McGaw Road. Silly me. I hope they have a way to keep the snacks and drinks away from all those beautiful brand new sofas! Scotch Guard, anyone?
Finally, all the way in August, we have watermelons.
3RD ANNUAL HOT AUGUST WATERMELON Party!
Hosted by: DP Solutions “Problem Solved”
Columbia August 17, 2023 5:00-7:30 PM
Register: i95-Melon_2023.eventbrite.com

DP Solutions is on Red Branch Road. Its focus is providing digital services. I-95 Business is a business publication. None of that matters to me. Take a look at this:

Back in the day I used to meet up with local bloggers at local BlogTail parties. That’s as close as I’ve gotten to the local cocktail scene. I actually have a pretty cool picture of myself at such a event, but, as local trolls have been on the loose lately, I’ll just keep that to myself. I’d hate to see it turn up, doctored, on certain FB pages.
You’ll just have to take my word for it that I’ve had my very own cool moments while out and about. A few.
Have you ever been to a “theme” cocktail party? Not one in someone’s home - - a professionally oriented one. Was it memorable? And: do you think we’ll ever get beyond alcohol as de rigeur for these things? Is there a better way?
