Here Comes the Sun

You know what this means.

There will be sun. I am ready for it.

Tonight, beginning at six pm, is the last Lakefront Live headline event of the season. The evening’s featured artist is guitarist Yasmin Williams. Cured/18th & 21st will be on hand selling mini tacos, margaritas and more, all priced at $10 or less. Learn more about Williams and the event here.

REMINDER: Tonight is also the Drag(on) Extravaganza at HCC. (First mentioned here.) This is an indoor event at Smith Theater from 6 to 9 pm. It’s free and open to members of the community at large.

Saturday brings this year’s Hops and Harvest Festival to Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods. Their social media game is top notch. I’d be very surprised if you haven’t already heard about this event. But, just in case:

Hops and Harvest Festival, Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods, Saturday, October 8, 12-5 pm.

There’ll be beer, wine and spirits from area producers, plus food, vendors, and music. My suggestion, bring a designated driver! (Their admission to the event is substantially reduced.) Yes, you must purchase tickets to enter.

Sunday, beginning at 11 am to 6 pm at the very same location - - Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods - - it’s Howard County Pride!  Learn more and register for your free tickets at their Eventbrite page.

Howard County Pride celebrates and unites the LGBTQ+ community. Our events and programs advocate, support, and educate. It is our hope that the LGBTQ+ community in Howard County, Maryland finds a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment every time they are at a HoCo Pride event. Join us in celebrating your identity with our community!

This family friendly event features mermaids, artisans, non-profit organizations, food trucks, and a stage show of diverse performances anchored by an epic drag show.

There's also a special kids' zone for our youngest guests where they'll have a DJ dance party, can hear book readings by Howard County Library, and participate in arts and crafts and games by HoCo Rec and Parks!

Something you need to know, after almost an entire week of rain in Columbia/HoCo: no matter what the weather is like at the Hops and Harvest Festival or at HoCo Pride this weekend, you’re going to be grateful that the Inner Arbor Trust invested in conservation landscaping projects and pervious pathways for Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods. Trust me on this. If you’ve ever attended Wine in the Woods in wet weather or after a rainy spell, you will notice the difference.

Something to think about as you enjoy your weekend in the Park.

If you’re looking for something to do on Friday night, may I suggest staying home and resting up for the big weekend? If you have additional suggestions, you know where to send them:
