About the event:
Mark your calendars for our Howard County Juneteenth Community Day & Block Party on Saturday, June 20th from 10am-3pm! Register at bit.ly/HoCoJuneteenth26 to receive a full program and make sure you don't miss out on any of the incredible workshops, classes, and activities we'll have on offer.
Head to the Lois Wooten Library between 1-3pm to participate in a filmed interview series with filmmaker and recent Howard County high school graduate Gavin Lampasone exploring the richness of oral history and personal stories as touchstones for preserving culture, history, and community.
Bonus content::Who is Lois Wooten and why is the library at the Harriet Tubman Cultural Center named after her?
Guess what? I thought that would be an easy question to research and I was wrong. So far I have gotten the general idea that Ms.Wooten was a philanthropist and a librarian. Just think, if I had picked up the phone and called the Harriet Tubman Center I could have learned more.
Oof.
I’m on it. Look for more info later in the week. In the meantime here’s a photo I took of the library at the Harriet Tubman Cultural Center when I visited a few years ago. (I just may have been more than a little focused on the dolls atop the bookshelves.)
Come out to the Juneteenth celebration on Saturday and you can see the whole room. Plus a whole lot more.
