F ³: To the Trees!

It turns out that there are just some places in this world where it is difficult to get a reliable internet connection.

In a tree, for instance.

For the past several days I’ve been living a long-held dream to get away from it all in a tree house hotel. The place is called Ella’s Enchanted Tree Houses and it’s in Western Maryland not too far from Deep Creek Lake. We stayed in the Cozy Spruce. (Architecture and engineering by Treehouse Masters. My heroes!)

True, it’s not all that far off the ground, as treehouses go. And yet the feeling of being up in the trees was amazing.

Here’s the chair where I did some journaling and where I drank in the layers of birdsong around me. And I would have been blogging there, too, if it weren’t for that pesky lack of wifi.

What was I thinking? Sometimes, when you have the opportunity to cross something off of your bucket list, there will be some tradeoffs.

In this case it was wonky internet and a shower instead of a bathtub. For a few days it was totally worth it. Now, if I should ever win a big lottery jackpot I’d definitely build my own treehouse with different specifications.

For one thing, I’m not at all sure I’d want raccoons staring at me in the bathroom.

The last few days were a dream come true. Something about staying in a treehouse speaks to that child inside of me that has never really grown up. I still want to play, to dream, to imagine and pretend.

A tree house, a free house,
A secret you and me house,
A high up in the leafy branches
Cozy as can be house.
A street house, a neat house,
Be sure to wipe your feet house
Is not my kind of house at all-
Let's go live in a tree house.
