I had bid farewell to high temperatures and turned off our AC for the season and then the hot weather came roaring back. So back came the AC. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. Autumn often has these ups and downs where we live. Just as we get that urge to make a pot of soup and change over to turtlenecks, the weather predictions include temps in the 80’s.
I noticed the weather leaning Fall-ish again yesterday when I was at the book festival at Clarksville Commons. Is this finally it? I wondered. I came home and turned off the AC. Again.
This morning I came downstairs. The thermostat read 72 but my body told me it was freezing. I think my internal thermostat is broken. It may be time to get some soup after all. I noticed this offering from MoMo Hub the other day. I’m tempted.
On the other hand, this will-it, won’t-it weather has some folks craving cold drinks. I saw a request on Howard County Eats for local places to get apple cider slushies. I did not even know that apple cider slushies existed! In case this sounds good to you, members of the group recommended Georgia Grace Café, Larriland, and Soft Stuff. Others thought that TLV Tree Farm and The Snowball Stand (off Route 99) were likely possibilities.
Speaking of the weather, did you know that Howard County has its own weather channel? HoCo Weather Channel is a student-driven initiative begun by David Liu while he was at Marriotts Ridge High School. (I believe he’s now a student at the University of Maryland.)
I found them on
Instagram and you can also check out their
website. Last week they announced a partnership with the Howard County Public School System.

We're excited to announce that HoCo Weather Channel is officially partnering with the Howard County Public Schools System (HCPSS)! Together, we're working to bring weather information closer to the students and communities we serve. Stay tuned to see what we have planned this winter!
EXCLUSIVE PARTNERSHIP
SCHOOL CLOSURE/DELAYS + WEATHER-RELATED DECISION MAKING
Hmm…Interesting. I’m looking forward to learning more about this venture.
So, what do you think? Is Fall here for real this time? I’m sitting here wearing a hoodie over my nightgown while drinking my usual morning iced coffee so I’m not sure I’ve made up my mind yet.
