Tuesday Topics

Hello Tuesday that feels like a Monday!

The Kid is having her wisdom teeth out today and I am already feeling preoccupied with that. It’s amazing what a lack of focus will do to your blogging.

When I encouraged you all to visit the new playground at Blandair I didn’t mean you should all come on the same day. Really. We drove by there yesterday and it was wildly overcrowded. Not only was every parking space filled, but people were parked on the shoulder on both sides. I don’t mean to promote exclusivity but I do think there’s a limit of how many children can play on a playground successfully.

Of course it’s new and that adds to its appeal. But maybe they should prohibit that “creative overflow parking” in order to keep the playground experience safe. In the meantime if you have special needs children and/or children with sensory issues, you’ll definitely want to choose off hours to avoid meltdowns.

Sigh.

My most successful posts (things people engaged with) on social media yesterday were not about local issues or the meaning of life. Here they are:

Out of milk. I just put a fudgecicle in my coffee.

Is Pete’s Snowballs in Oakland Mills or Long Reach?

It’s funny how that works.

As to to the former, I’m happy to report that most people think that’s a perfectly good use of a fudgecicle. Hats off to the lovely fellow who offered to run right over with a cup of milk. I do believe he would have come through had I asked.

About Pete’s. We love Pete’s. I would like to claim it for Oakland Mills. Alas, it is apparently in Long Reach. Perhaps we can think of the area that houses Pete’s Snowball stand, his family home, and his garden as being in a neutral location. Like Switzerland. I guess Pete’s is too awesome to belong to just one village.

Last night I saw that a young woman who was once in my music and movement classes as a preschooler was presenting a vocal concert on Zoom under the auspices of the Howard County Autism Society. This has nothing to do with the influence of my teaching and everything to do with her innate love of music and the support of her parents and teachers through the years. I remember her fondly.

Seeing that she is still making music made my heart glad.
